Cycling the BC Coastal Circle Route

The British Columbia Coastal Circle Route takes in the best of Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast. We had a little three-day getaway and chose to shorten the route by traveling from Horseshoe Bay by ferry to Nanaimo and begin the circle back to Horseshoe Bay via Powell River and the Sunshine Coast. Beginning the circle on the island and heading north for the start of the ride means that the ocean is always on your right-hand side, allowing for maximum ocean viewing and easy access to beaches and ice cream shops!

Fort Collins, Colorado, to Laramie, Wyoming

I have thought about biking from Fort Collins to Laramie many times, but never really had an excuse. In June 2014 I found one. Most years we (myself, husband, sister, and various friends) run the oldest footrace in Wyoming, the Pilot Hill 25K. This year I  biked up to Laramie the day before the race, spent the night, and then ran the race the next day. I will admit my bike and I got a ride home.

Oak City Overnight, North Carolina

A friend recently alerted me to an overnight bike trip being organized by a local independent bike shop. We’ve both been interested in expanding our camping skills to include travel by bicycle. He was unable to go, but I seized the opportunity to end my procrastination and get an S24O (sub-24-hour overnight) under my belt.

Overnight in New York City

When you look at the Brooklyn Bridge from a distance, you don’t quite realize the angle of the slope of the path that gets you up to the flat center span. It was something I hadn’t noticed that much on my earlier reconnaissance trip, either. But now that I was riding “the Truck,” complete with passenger and towing a trailer on a hot and humid day in July 2012, I felt like I was cycling up a ski jump!

Early Season in North Idaho

Sometimes you just wanna hop on your bike and go for a ride. Several weeks ago, Travis and I decided that we needed to climb down off our bar stools and look for opportunities for a fun early season ride. We knew we wanted to do an overnight trip, but we had no real experience with multi-day bike travel.

Bike Touring Ojai to Try Out Fat Bikes

Chris from Topanga Creek Bicycles has been doing overnight and longer bike trips since last year. When he invited me to join him on his next trip to Ojai late last April -- it would consist of a train ride into Ventura and then riding up to Ojai -- I jumped at the opportunity to travel with a group of like-minded individuals. The details were actually very sketchy until a few days before the trip; I suppose Chris had been too busy running his business to get the information out. But he got it out with enough time for me to figure out what I was going to bring.

Spring in East Texas: First Overnight Trip to Bonham State Park

The purpose of this trip, besides having fun, was to prove out my method, packing, and fitness for longer trips later this summer. We decided to drive and park at a friend’s house so we could keep the distance down to about 50 miles for this first trip.
