San Francisco to Samuel P. Taylor State Park

My wife Samantha and I were in need of a quick getaway, so we decided to do some Bay Area bike camping. This trip starts at the local Caltrain station in San Carlos, but you can set out from just about anywhere in the Bay Area. The destination is Samuel P. Taylor State Park.

Our First Overnighter: To Marseilles and Back

We set out early one Saturday in June, despite the dismal weather report that promised afternoon thunderstorms. The train brought us to our first trail, the Old Plank Road Trail, in short order. We were underway. The Old Plank Road Trail is nicely paved and dead flat, so we covered the 20 miles to Joliet quickly, stopping only to fill up on coffee and breakfast in Frankfort.

Hobble Creek—Diamond Fork Canyon, Utah

In preparation for a six-day, 300-plus mile bike tour, I decided to load up my bike and go for a two-day shakedown ride. I wanted to make sure everything worked well with my new bike, new panniers, handlebar bag, etc. Though I had put about 500 miles on the bike I had never ridden it loaded.

Russ and Barb's First Overnight Adventure

My name is Russ and my wife's name is Barb. We live in a little village of Banfield, Michigan. I found your Bike Overnight site and the link to make the kitty litter panniers. I made the panniers and waited for the weather to cool off to try them out on our first overnight trip.

Cycling the BC Coastal Circle Route

The British Columbia Coastal Circle Route takes in the best of Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast. We had a little three-day getaway and chose to shorten the route by traveling from Horseshoe Bay by ferry to Nanaimo and begin the circle back to Horseshoe Bay via Powell River and the Sunshine Coast. Beginning the circle on the island and heading north for the start of the ride means that the ocean is always on your right-hand side, allowing for maximum ocean viewing and easy access to beaches and ice cream shops!

Fort Collins, Colorado, to Laramie, Wyoming

I have thought about biking from Fort Collins to Laramie many times, but never really had an excuse. In June 2014 I found one. Most years we (myself, husband, sister, and various friends) run the oldest footrace in Wyoming, the Pilot Hill 25K. This year I  biked up to Laramie the day before the race, spent the night, and then ran the race the next day. I will admit my bike and I got a ride home.

Oak City Overnight, North Carolina

A friend recently alerted me to an overnight bike trip being organized by a local independent bike shop. We’ve both been interested in expanding our camping skills to include travel by bicycle. He was unable to go, but I seized the opportunity to end my procrastination and get an S24O (sub-24-hour overnight) under my belt.
